A. D. Winans, b. 1936, is the author of over 60 books of poetry, most recently Dead Lion  (Punk Hostage Press, 2014). He was the editor and publisher of Second Coming Magazine/Press for 17 years.  His work has appeared internationally and has been translated into 9 languages.   Winans’ poetry has been published in a variety of literary magazines over the last 50 years.  A poem of his (Lady Death) was set to music and performed at Alice Tully Hall in New York.   In 2012, three poems of his were selected by the New England Conservatory to be set to music for inclusion in a concert at a future date.  Winans has received numerous editor and publisher grants from the NEA and the California Arts Council, and writer assistance grants from PEN and the Academy of American Poets.  He was awarded a PEN Josephine Miles Award for excellence in literature in 2006 and in 2009, he was presented a PEN Oakland Lifetime Achievement Award.  Winans has read his poetry with Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Diane Di Prima, Bob Kaufman, Jack Micheline and other prominent poets.  He is a member of PEN, and has served on the Board of Directors of various art organizations, including the Committee of Small Magazine Editors and Publishers (COSMEP), The South of Market Cultural Center, and Friends of Services For the Arts.  He is currently an Advisory Board Member of the San Francisco International Poetry Library.  Winans continues to live in San Francisco, California.
