Steven Sher, b. 1949, is a native New Yorker presently living in Jerusalem. He has a M.A. (Journalism/Mass Communications) from the University of Iowa and a M.F.A. (Creative Writing—Poetry) from Brooklyn College (where he studied with John Ashbery). He is the author of 13 books (poetry, short fiction, essays), one of which was an Oregon Book Awards finalist. Over the past 35 years, Sher has taught writing or been a visiting writer at many colleges (including Spalding University, Oregon State University, Willamette University, Western Oregon University, The University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Yeshiva University, Manhattan College most recently); conducted writing workshops for Poets House, Poets & Writers, The National Endowment for the Arts (Creativity & Aging Initiative), The Hudson Valley Writers’ Center, various Writers in the Schools programs; and presided for 10 years over a regional writers organization (the Willamette Literary Guild). He has presented his work at many venues (from reading series to symposia to radio programs); been a featured writer at festivals such as the San Louis Obispo Poetry Festival, the Catskills Poetry Festival, the Oregon State Poetry Association Writers Conference, the Coos Head Writers Workshop; and worked as a writer/editor/media consultant for various  magazines/newspapers/book publishers/literary journals/industry over the past 40 years.
